The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils Celebrates the Visit of the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL)

In the presence of a number of Australian federal and local ministers and members of parliament, the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils hosted, at its headquarters in Sydney, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the MWL and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars.
At the outset of the visit, welcoming remarks were delivered in honor of His Excellency by His Eminence Sheikh Shady Alsuleiman, President of the National Imams Council, and His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Ibrahim Abu Mohammed, Grand Mufti of Australia, in addition to remarks delivered by a number of members of parliament and government officials.
His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Al-Issa then delivered a speech addressing a number of topics related to religious, ethnic, and cultural diversity, clarifying Islam’s position on these matters. He also reviewed the League’s relevant programs around the world, stemming from its Islamic and humanitarian mission and objectives—particularly initiatives aimed at promoting friendship between nations and peoples through shared values, in pursuit of global peace and societal harmony.
His Excellency also highlighted aspects of the League’s partnerships with international governmental and non-governmental organizations, foremost among them the United Nations, to implement a number of initiatives. These include efforts to counter theories and slogans advocating the inevitability of conflict and civilizational clashes, and the resulting risks of racism and hatred in their exclusionary and unjust forms—particularly with regard to minority rights—thereby undermining the concept of inclusive citizenship and equality in rights and duties before the constitution and the law, both in their legislative foundations and practical applications.
He further commended the distinguished Australian model in maintaining the cohesion of its diverse society.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils hosted a luncheon in honor of His Excellency the Secretary-General and the accompanying MWL delegation.
