Muslim World League Welcomes European Union’s Decision to Lift Sanctions on Syria

The Muslim World League (MWL) has welcomed the recent decision by the European Union to lift all economic sanctions imposed on the Syrian Arab Republic, considering it a constructive step towards supporting Syria’s path to recovery and stability.
In a statement issued by the MWL’s General Secretariat, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the MWL and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, commended the European Union’s decision as a pivotal development that aligns with the aspirations of the Syrian people for a renewed and hopeful future. His Excellency also expressed appreciation for the broader international efforts aimed at alleviating the humanitarian impact on Syria. In particular, he praised the ongoing and sincere efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting the Syrian people—efforts that have culminated in significant global responses.
He noted the recent decision announced by His Excellency the President of the United States, Mr. Donald Trump, in response to the initiative of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia—may Allah protect him—to lift U.S. sanctions on Syria, marking a historic turning point for the Syrian people. His Excellency concluded by invoking prayers for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince—may Allah protect them—for their steadfast efforts in advancing peace, alleviating suffering, and promoting prosperity across the Islamic world and globally.
