H.E. Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, met with H.E. Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the British Parliament and Speaker of the House of Commons, at his office in Westminster, in the capital city of London.
The meeting addressed the foundations of social cohesion, foremost among them mutual respect and the enactment of legislation to combat hate speech and various forms of discrimination and exclusion that undermine national unity. In this context, H.E. expressed his pride in the British Muslim community, which is mindful of the importance of citizenship values, proud of its national identity, committed to serving the country, and loyal to the King.
H.E. also commended the values upheld by the United Kingdom, which have firmly established coexistence under the framework of the constitution and the concept of a unified nation. He referred, in this regard, to the lecture delivered by His Majesty King Charles on Islam and the West, which reflects a broad-minded perspective and embodies the values of the United Nations.
The meeting underscored the importance of intensifying and strengthening efforts to foster communication and build bridges between civilizations and cultures on the basis of shared values.
