The Muslim World League Welcomes Australia’s Intention to Recognize the State of Palestine, and New Zealand’s Consideration of Recognition

Makkah
The Muslim World League (MWL) has welcomed the announcement by Mr. Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister of Australia, of his country’s intention to recognize the State of Palestine. The MWL also welcomed the announcement by the Government of New Zealand on its consideration to recognize the State of Palestine by next September.

In a statement issued by the MWL’s General Secretariat, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the MWL and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, commended this stance by the governments of the two countries. He further affirmed that it represents an important step in the right direction—toward a legitimate and responsible stance that upholds the historical and legal rights of the Palestinian people and constitutes the only viable path to achieving comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in the region.

His Excellency stated “All nations must assume their responsibility toward addressing the plight of the Palestinian people. This requires standing firmly on the right side of history—upholding international legitimacy and working collectively to bring an end to this painful humanitarian tragedy and its grave consequences for the region, the global community, and humanity at large.”
