U.S. Congress Honors Secretary-General of the Muslim World League for Efforts in Combating Hate
Washington, D.C.:
In recognition of the Muslim World League (MWL)’s efforts to combat hate and promote coexistence among religious communities, Republican and Democratic members of the United States Congress honored His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, the Secretary-General of the MWL and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
A number of members of the House of Representatives and the Senate signed a certificate of appreciation commending these efforts, which have contributed to strengthening social cohesion within diverse societies and reducing conflict and division. Particular emphasis was placed on the international initiatives of the MWL aimed at countering racism and protecting the security and dignity of individuals across different religions and ethnic backgrounds.
Community leaders representing the Muslim community in the United States, who attended the ceremony, described the occasion as an honor for all American Muslims. They noted that it was the first event of its kind to be held in the U.S. Capitol in this context.
In his remarks, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Al-Issa stated that the initiatives being recognized reflect the authentic values of Islam, which call for peace in our world and harmony within its societies. He emphasized the continued commitment of the MWL to fostering constructive and effective dialogue among all communities in order to advance a culture of understanding, awareness, and cooperation. This commitment, he noted, stems from a recognition of the Creator’s wisdom in the diversity of humanity—a diversity that calls for mutual respect and engagement through thoughtful and civilized dialogue rather than conflict and clash.
Members of Congress also addressed the ceremony, highlighting the Muslim World League’s contributions in advancing the principles for which the recognition was awarded.
