The Islamic Centre in the British capital, London, hosted an extensive meeting between H.E. Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Alissa Secretary-General of the MWL and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars—and Islamic leadership figures from across the United Kingdom.
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the importance of adopting the path of wisdom in the conduct of the Muslim community in response to all circumstances—particularly in light of the extremists’ reliance on tactics of provocation and incitement. With Islamic insight, it was clearly affirmed that extremists must not be afforded any opportunity, following the example of our noble Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—who, in the face of incomparable hardship, upheld the values of wisdom, mercy, forgiveness, and forbearance, following the principle of: “Repel evil with that which is better.”
H.E. further underscored the importance of unifying religious authority in matters of fatwa (Islamic legal opinion) and religious guidance, especially concerning public affairs.
He noted that the Islamic Fiqh Council, affiliated with the MWL—the oldest and most distinguished jurisprudential council in Islamic history—will convene a forum at this very centre to discuss the jurisprudence of Muslim communities, invited and hosted by the centre’s leadership.
The forum will also propose the development of a reference framework for this jurisprudence, to be updated from time to time as needed. It will likewise present updates on training programs and initiatives in the United Kingdom aligned with the #CharterOfMakkah, along with a proposal to incorporate it into Islamic curricula at various educational levels.
H.E. further emphasized the importance of safeguarding Muslim youth from ideologies that deviate from authentic Islamic moderation—beginning with the central role of the family, continuing through the vital significance of religious education curricula and the proper training and qualification of its teachers, and extending to all influential platforms, particularly Friday sermons and public lectures.
At the conclusion of the meeting, H.E. praised the awareness of the British Muslim community, stating: “We are rightfully proud of it as an insightful component that faithfully represents the true image of our Islamic religion in this diverse and influential society.”
This was followed by a number of questions and contributions, many of which commended the global efforts of the MuslimWorldLeague and affirmed their pride in its work—emphasizing that this sentiment was reflected in the impression held by various levels of British society.
Additionally:
The attendees expressed their appreciation for the Secretary-General’s visit to the United Kingdom and his meetings with senior officials—particularly given the timing, which they considered critical. They praised his discussions on the phenomenon of Islamophobia, especially in light of its recent troubling escalation, and lauded the objective and wise solutions he proposed to address it.
They also commended the MWL's efforts to unify their local Islamic religious authority, following the model it has successfully implemented in several minority communities. They affirmed that this represents a long-awaited aspiration, particularly in light of previous unsuccessful attempts. They noted that the topics presented by H.E. the Secretary-General had garnered wide appreciation, reinforcing the confidence of the broader British public in the MWL's discourse and its global initiatives promoting social cohesion and optimal coexistence—values deeply rooted in Islam itself.
