Makkah:
The Muslim World League (MWL) has welcomed the announcement by the Government of the United Kingdom regarding its intention to recognize the State of Palestine in September 2025, along with its reaffirmed support for the two-state solution.
This position was articulated by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Sir Keir Starmer, and formally conveyed by the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, The Right Honourable David Lammy MP, during his participation in the High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in partnership with the French Republic.
In a statement issued by the MWL’s General Secretariat, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the MWL and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, praised this historic and significant announcement by the British Government. He affirmed that it represents the rightful and responsible stance in support of the historical and legal rights of the Palestinian people and constitutes the only path toward achieving comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in the region.
His Excellency stated: “It is the responsibility of all nations of the world to fulfill their duty toward alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people by standing on the right side of history—adopting a legitimate and responsible stance in support of rights and justice, and upholding international legitimacy. This is essential to ending this painful humanitarian tragedy and its grave consequences for the region, the international community, and humanity as a whole.”
The Secretary-General further emphasized the appreciation of the MWL and the Islamic world for the steadfast position of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding the Palestinian cause, particularly the tireless and pivotal efforts led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and the close follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister—may Allah preserve them both. These efforts have been advanced through the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two‑State Solution, launched by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as its leadership of the Joint Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee. These initiatives culminated in the historic international conference on the two-state solution, an undertaking spearheaded by the Kingdom in active partnership with the French Republic and marked by an unprecedented high-level international attendance.
