The Muslim World League Welcomes Announcements by Canada, Malta, and Portugal Regarding Their Intention to Recognize the State of Palestine

Makkah:

The Muslim World League (MWL) has welcomed the announcements made by the Prime Minister of Canada, Mr. Mark Carney; the Prime Minister of the Republic of Malta, Mr. Robert Abela; and the Office of the Prime Minister of Portugal, Mr. Luís Montenegro, regarding their countries' intention to recognize the State of Palestine in September.

In a statement issued by the MWL’s General Secretariat, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the MWL and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, commended this declaration by the Governments of Canada, Malta, and Portugal. He affirmed that it represents an important step in the right direction—toward a legitimate and responsible stance that upholds the historical and legal rights of the Palestinian people and constitutes the only viable path to achieving comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in the region.

His Excellency stated:

“All nations must assume their responsibility toward addressing the plight of the Palestinian people. This requires standing firmly on the right side of history—upholding international legitimacy and working collectively to bring an end to this painful humanitarian tragedy and its grave consequences for the region, the global community, and humanity at large.”
