The Muslim World League Expresses Its Distress over Shocking UN Reports of Famine in Sudan

Makkah:

The Muslim World League (MWL) has expressed its deep concern and distress over the shocking UN reports on the catastrophic humanitarian situation and the famine affecting parts of the country following the Rapid Support Forces’ takeover of El-Fasher.

In a statement issued by the MWL’s General Secretariat, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the MWL and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, said:
“Famine is occurring in Sudan now, before the eyes of the international community, for the second time in less than a year, as declared by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) in the cities of El-Fasher and Kadugli.” He emphasized that this declaration is an urgent and pressing appeal to the international community to intensify its efforts to save the Sudanese people, and to take firm and immediate measures against all the horrific violations and abuses committed against civilians, to hold those responsible accountable, and to compel the criminal elements to fully comply with the principles of international humanitarian law and the provisions of the Jeddah Declaration regarding the protection of civilians and the delivery of humanitarian aid. May Allah hasten the relief of our brothers in Sudan and disgrace every sinful aggressor.
