His Excellency Sheikh Dr.Mohammed Al-issa
, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, presided over the Council of Islamic Leaders in North and South America, which convened in Washington, D.C. The Council was established following its inaugural conference on March 17, 2022 (14 Shaban 1443 AH), an initiative led by the Muslim World League. This landmark event marked the adoption of the Charter Of Makkah, which serves as the foundation for numerous initiatives and programs across the Americas.

The Council operates as an independent Islamic entity, representing the leadership of various Islamic centers, institutions, councils, as well as fatwa and guidance assemblies throughout the Americas.

In its efforts, the Council has sought the expertise of prominent Islamic leaders from around the world, guided by the principle of Islamic unity, which was reflected in the theme of its conference: “Improving Muslim Unity and Global Coexistence.” In recognition of his distinguished international contributions to Islam, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa was entrusted with the responsibility of founding and presiding over the Council during its formative phase, a role in which his leadership and global influence have earned him widespread trust and admiration in the Islamic world.

The announcement of the Council's formation, following the aforementioned conference, was attended by an esteemed assembly of political, religious, and societal leaders from both governmental and civil sectors.

The Muslim World League takes great pride in the fact that all Council members are highly respected Islamic leaders who played a pivotal role in the development and issuance of the Charter of Makkah. This historic charter, which received the distinguished patronage of the Custodian Of TheTwoHoly Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (may Allah preserve him), was unanimously endorsed by member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (#OIC). These nations have recommended its implementation in religious, educational, and cultural institutions worldwide. Furthermore, the Charter of Makkah was honored with the prestigious King Faisal Prize for Service to Islam. It has also been adopted by the Council of African Scholars, the Council of ASEAN Scholars in Southeast Asia, and the Council of Islamic Leaders in Europe, all of which have recommended the development of initiatives, programs, and training inspired by its principles.
